Starsky & Hutch review

Starsky & Hutch. [official site]

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson leap into big-hair, bell-bottom action as Starsky & Hutch. Stiller plays David Starsky, a hyper-aggressive loose cannon in need of the steadying influence of new partner Ken Hutchinson, easy-going blond slacker.

The two are undercover (sort of) detectives in the mean streets of Bay City, circa 1975, taking on the world of crime in their red and white Ford Torino.

Snoop Dogg provides the inside dope as drug-dealing, girl-pimping police informant Huggy Bear. Vince Vaughn is very tall and wears a big mustache. Carmen Electra, Amy Smart, Juliette Lewis, and Jason Batemen turn up, as well as Will Ferrell (in cameo). Director Todd Phillips also provided the world with Old School and Road Trip, so he has the feel for loopy love-it-or-hate-it comedy.

My review: bad.

My review: bad.

I attended with four coworkers, one of whom (a rational woman by all accounts) acknowledged the fact that the acting and storyline was supposed to be bad and accepted it as is and loved it.

I couldn't get past that point. I was expecting some good old slapstick and funny bantering back and forth between the partners. But every line they pushed just trying to be witty or funny was not. I think I only laughed maybe 2 or 3 times. Other than that, it was one of those movies that dragged, and you wanted to laugh and waited for some excitement, but it was bad.

Did I mention that the movie was bad?

I could have easily waited for a $1.00 video rental. Would I recommend it? Nope.
