For lack of a real candidate, the news media, including Tysto's own BB Rodriguez, has anointed Hillary Clinton the "frontrunner" in a race that hasn't started yet. I hope she's got the good sense not to run for president. She'll create another Civil War, and she's no Lincoln. If there is a candidate that could do more damage to our country than W, it's Hillary. We don't need another ends-justify-means president.
First off, Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton. Her husband is smart and popular (and irresistible to the ladies...), but he's still Slick Willie to a lot of people (including some of the ladies...). He might help her win in the primaries, but not a general election.
If she runs, she will become a national joke and destroy the Democratic Party. I have pictures in my head of Dukakis in that tank, but that will be nothing compared to what the conservative attack machine will do to her.
Rodriguez concedes that she's viewed "as a harpy" and presents a clever plan to rehabilitate her image. I don't think there's any possible way she could rehabilitate her image, because being a harpy is only half her problem. The other half is that she is a gutless, pandering opportunist. Rodriguez wrote:

That's problem #1 with her. This kind of re-making was easy with George W, because he's a moron. He didn't have to change to follow the polls because he followed the polls to begin with (or, rather, Karl Rove did). No one thinks W is smart. They only think he sticks to his guns.
Hillary, for all of her character flaws, is not a moron; she has a mind of her own, and that mind is an imprudent bandwagon hopper. Hillary can't be rehabbed in that way because all of her flip-flopping is on camera. She is one of the great liars in modern political history, and I think it would take a superhuman effort—if not some kind of space-age mind-control device invented by Al Gore*—to keep her from swallowing her foot or being exposed as a phony under the continuous, tireless glare of limelight she'd have to survive in a presidential campaign.
* <sigh> Al Gore didn't claim he invented the space-age mind-control device. He only said that he "took the initiative in creating" the space-age mind-control device, along with other important pieces of legislation. —Ed.

Last, nobody has been able to define a core set of issues that resonate with the liberal base and that any current front-running Democrat can credibly claim to support. Hillary is possibly the worst off of all the front-runners in this respect.
The only Democrat in worse shape on this issue is what's his name from Connecticut who ran with Gore. But Hillary is hot on his tails... I mean introducing a bill that would ban flag-burning? How is she going to defend that to actual liberals?

Desperate is a great word to describe her. From her naked attempts at coddling favor with her electorate to her attempts to appear as if she's "tough on terror" or whatever else she's trying to convince people she is, that is the one word that always is appropriate to use when describing her: desperate.
