The new Tysto

New Tysto

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

The new Tysto is coming. Tysto went live on March 7, 2004. Five-and-a-half years is a long time to stick with a look. WordPress has come a long way in that time, and we use WordPress over at Zarban's House of Commentaries as a content management system. As a magazine-style blog, it should be even better.

Some of the most current articles will be converted, but it's likely that the bulk of Tysto's long history will remain in its current form, archived for permanent availability. (In fact, it's unlikely that any article pages will even shift and break any incoming links. But if any do, we'll put in redirects.)

Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be working on the WordPress template, massaging it into a more Tysto-like look and feel. In just one day, it's already looking great and working mostly like it needs to. From time to time, you may see the new site pop up in place of the current one temporarily as we test some of the mechanics. But even then, you will find a post on the front page with a link to the archive site.

You can see from the picture here that the new look will borrow most of the layout and visual elements of the current site, but those will probably change slowly as well.

The new site is being built around the Simplicity template, but heavily modified to do what we want it to do, like have a tiny header for maximum vertical space, custom content in the sidebar on the right, and—of course—Laverne's horoscope.
